Things You’ll Want to Know Before Starting Grad School

Are you going to be starting grad school soon? Or maybe you are considering your options before leaving college and diving into the world of work? Grad school is a huge transition from college and is one that many people tend to underestimate. Here, we are taking you through some of the things that you will definitely want to know before starting grad school.

    Hard Work Starts Immediately

And we mean immediately! While college is hard, grad school is seriously tough and your exams will begin before you have even begun your course, such as the GRE. This means that studying begins right away and you will need to make sure that further education is definitely the right path for you. Ensure that you set time aside to prepare for these tests and you can even find the best GRE practice tests at TestPrepSelect by visiting www.testprepselect.com/best-gre-test-prep-course. These courses will be of great help so be sure to do some research into what’s available.

    You’ll Be Out All Day

While at college many people stay on campus, giving you the luxury of heading back home in between classes, this is not usually the case with a graduate programme as most students will be living off campus. This means that not only will you be spending far longer days on campus, you will also need to be a lot more organised as you won’t be able to simply pop back to your room to grab your phone, wallet or any books you might have forgotten about in the morning.

    Food Costs

When you go to grad school, you’ll find that one of your biggest costs is actually food. While for some people they may have successfully learned to cook in college, for many, it was a dining hall or meal plan used. It is important to remember though that it is fine to have the convenience of spending more money on food when you have a busy week or weekend with work and studying.

    Get Information from Others

Once you get to grad school, you will quickly find that there does not seem to be enough hours in the day to do everything that you want to do. With so many great classes to choose from and then research on top of that it can quickly become hard to know which to choose. At this point, it is a great idea to speak with other people if your school has some sort of mentorship program. Try and meet with a mix of other students and professors and speak with them about how they managed to get to where they are today. This will then give you the opportunity to reflect on what exactly it is that you want to do and you can make decisions based on this.

    Making Life Long Friends

What’s really amazing about grad school is that while it is a fantastic academic opportunity, it is also where you will make some incredible life-long friends. You’ll meet lots of interesting and talented people that you love to spend time with and will continue to do so long after graduating.
