We cannot neglect necessity… but technology seems to be turning into the new mother of invention and a lot of things are discovered through science. Actually, you wouldn’t be wrong to say that everything around us is Science. Science is applied in our everyday life e.g. eating, walking, breathing, riding, and driving among others. The earth is a product of science and that shows how important science is. For one to be a pro in the field of science, they need to go to school and get an education and since science is a broad spectrum discipline, one chooses a specific area to major in.
Well, to get back to the main agenda, wireless tech devices have taken the world by storm, especially over the past few years. They are in our homes, workplaces, schools, and even science laboratories. Sticking to the latter, many of these devices have helped science students to ace on their grades or even make discoveries that could lead to huge technological breakthroughs.
Some from personal experience and some from historical records, here are some wireless devices that have proven helpful for students in the science field.
1. Desk Lamp
In science, there are a lot of experiments that are done and some of them involve thorough and very keen observations of specimens using a microscope. A desk lamp comes in handy because it can be used to provide sufficient light for study. Poor lighting gives inaccurate results while proper lighting definitely gives accurate results. Thanks to technology, sleek modern wireless desk lamps that are easily portable are now available.
2. Laptop
Gone are the days when students used to write notes on books and go to the library to read and get specific books. Even though these traditional modes of learning are used today, they are no longer heavily relied upon. Laptops have become one of the best ways to store information, do, research, and learn about anything you need to know. It is even better and safer because it is portable and as long as you have an internet connection, you have everything at the palm of your hands.
Needless to mention, modern laptops come with wireless technology such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which allow you to connect to the internet and other devices when doing your studies. Again, with a laptop, students can easily acquire information from scientific databases such as bioinformatics database, ChemXSeer, CINAHL, and CiNii, just to name a few. Regardless of your field of study, a laptop is a handy tech device that you don’t want to lack in your academic arsenal.
3. Mobile Phones
Mobile phones are more or less the small laptops of today. A phone is one of the lightest gadgets that you will use not only for communication but for many other purposes. For instance, you can record videos or take photos of certain science procedures that you can share with other students via Bluetooth or other wireless technologies. It can also be used for voice recording, note taking, information storage, sending emails, submitting assignments, and much more.
4. The Wireless Science Sensor
This one is perhaps one of the most innovative wireless devices dedicated to science students. Recently, a U.S.-based tech company, PASCO Scientific introduced a range of wireless science sensors that simply laboratory procedures by a huge margin. These include sensors for temperature, pH, force, and pressure, among others. The Wireless Colorimeter and Turbidity Sensor (see it here) can be used in chemistry lab procedures to determine the concentration of various solutions and assess the rate of chemical reactions. What’s more, the sensors are compatible with a range of operating systems, from Windows to Mac, Android, and iOS.
The device allows students to easily collect data from their lab experiments, which they can send wirelessly to their tech gadgets for utilization and report-writing. Apparently, these sensors have made many lab procedures easier to set up, even the ones that didn’t seem possible before. Additionally, they eliminate the need to use cables in lab setups and also minimize the amount of time spent on these procedures.
5. Wireless External Hard Disk
You can imagine working on your project or your final paper only to lose all that information because your laptop has crashed or malfunctioning. Devastating right? A lot of students have never seen the importance of an external disk for their work but since science needs a lot of research and storing of information for future reference, having a wireless hard drive where you can backup all your data as a science student is crucial.
The above devices are just a few among the many important devices that have transformed learning in the science field. They all come in handy especially during lab procedures, research, compiling reports, and submitting them. And since technology doesn’t seem to slow its advancement pace, you can only hope to see even more innovative devices like these in the not so far future.
